It has been a busy start to the year for the chapter with two excellent evening events held already:

  • 24th Feb 2009 (HTCIA Members only event) - Mr. Ryan Connolly (from Team Cymru) and Mr. Tarmo Randel (from CERT Estonia). An insightful evening focusing on Botnet technology and also the experience of Estonia as a victim of a major Botnet attack
  • 23rd March 2009 (HTCIA Members only event) - Mr. James Stark (Director: Technology Risk Limited, UK) on the Challenges of Effective Online Intelligence gathering. Mr. Stark is the leading trainer to UK Law Enforcement on this subject and is a highly regarded expert in this field & he shared a fascinating look at this fast developing new aspect of modern enforcement.

The next evening gathering is a new experiment for us. We will be having an online webinar with leading SANS forensic trainer Rob Lee on Thursday 23rd April 2009. This will be held in an interactive environment in the Microsoft Conference venue on the 23/F, Pacific Place III in HK. It is open to all members and guests and will be held from 1830 - 2000. The venue will allow us to interact with the trainer and also enable group discussions locally. The topic will be:

  • Live memory acquisition and analysis

For those unable to attend at the MS Offices in HK, you will be able to access the seminar from any Internet location. Further information about how to join the session will be sent via our mailing list shortly before the event - if you are not already a member of the list, please sign up by clicking here - it's simple, low traffic, & we guarantee no spam! Remember, events such as the above members-only restricted events will only be advertised via the mailing list.

This week, the Asia-Pacific Chapter website will be moving to a new host. During this time, there will be a number of changes and disruptions, so please bear with us during this time!

Most importantly, we will have a new online forum. This will be a source of communication between members and also a portal for non-members to ask questions. It will also be the source of restricted downloads for members, such as the material from the recent conference and past & future events.
