Conference is almost here!

The first ever HTCIA Regional Training Conference is almost upon us and the Committee and helpers are working hard to put the final touches in place. As you can see from the conference website, a fantastic line-up of international speakers has been arranged, and they will all soon be flying in to Hong Kong ready for what will no doubt be an event to remember.  This is all part of our committment to bring the highest quality training to our region at the lowest possible price!

The line up of speakers and labs has now been finalised, and we have also been very fortunate to have had a great deal of support from the forensics industry - some fantastic prizes have been donated worth far more than the cost of the training!

The response has been very encouraging, with participants registering from all over the world, including China, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Fiji, USA, UK, Netherlands, and Ghana.

The weather is also forecast to be good, Hong Kong is decked out in Xmas lights, and we are looking forward to a memorable event and the first of many such annual conferences in our Region!! See you all in Hong Kong next week!!

New Members

We have noticed a surge in membership applications in recent weeks, no doubt connected to the forthcoming HTCIA Asia Pacific Training Conference. It should also be noted that now is a good time to apply as membership runs on a calendar year basis, so new applicants will be good through December 2008.

A reminder therefore to new membership applicants of the following:

  • New members will only receive the HTCIA Member rate for the conference if forms are received before the early-bird cut-off date (Nov 12th). New applicants who have not yet received a membership number can still register for the conference by typing "pending" in the membership number column.
  • Please read the membership criteria carefully before applying to join - if you do not know any existing members to support your application, the Committee will be happy to be signatories provided you meet the criteria - please send an e-mail to committee(at)htcia.org.hk if you have any questions
  • Please download the form here and complete electronically before printing and signing - this makes it easier for the admin staff to read your details!
  • After signing, either scan and e-mail to committee(at)htcia.org.hk or fax to +852 2815-2024
  • Please don't forget to sign your agreement of the bylaws on page 2 - this is a common ommission!
  • At the moment we can only accept payment by credit card (unless you have a US$ cheque account), so please ensure the credit card details are filled in.

Vista Forensics Talk

As expected, HTCIA members were treated to a hugely informative and enlightening briefing on the forensic implications of the new Vista Operating System last Thursday at the Microsoft (HK) offices.

With his extensive law enforcement experience prior to joining Microsoft, Anthony was able to tailor his talk to directly address the concerns of the members present.

The interest of members in this subject was highlighted by the numerous queries thrown Anthony's way during the course of the evening. Unfortunately due to the nature of the content, we are unable to share the material on the website, but undoubtedly Anthony will be available for another talk later in the year for those who missed this opportunity!
