About the HTCIA Asia Pacific Chapter
The Asia Pacific Chapter of the International High Technology Crime Investigation Association was established in late 2005. Based from Hong Kong, this Chapter is the first to be established in the Asia Pacific Region and thus serves to represent all members located in member countries.
Due to the huge geographical area covered by the Chapter, it is the intention of the Committee to bring as much content as possible to members via this website. All presentations will be available for download here, and in the future, recordings of events will be made available for viewing.
The Committee recognises that this type of training and knowledge sharing is at a premium in our Region. We therefore aim to bring as many events as possible at the lowest cost for our members, to enhance learning and development of professional standards in this demanding field.
We welcome all new members, but to retain the integrity of the Association it is required that members undertake to observe the international HTCIA bylaws and are supported by two existing members of good standing.
Chapter Background
The idea for setting up a Chapter of the HTCIA in Asia was the result of discussions between a group of IT crime investigation professionals based in Hong Kong. These discussions lamented the need to travel far overseas to obtain quality training in this small (but growing) specialist field.
Already members of US HTCIA Chapters and with many having visited the spectactular annual training conference, the question was raised "why couldn't we bring these activities to Asia?"
Therefore, in early 2005, a number of open meetings were held to gauge the feasibility of establishing a local Chapter. Five volunteers representing law enforcement, private consultancies, major industry and the legal side came together to form the first committee. The Chapter was ratified by the International Committee at the Annual HTCIA Conference 2005, and the HTCIA Asia Pacific Chapter was formally registered as a legal society in HK in February 2006.
The aims are simple. To bring low cost, high quality training and presentations to our region. Ultimately, it is hoped to establish an annual regional conference (alternating between differnet regional locations each year) along the lines of the established US HTCIA annual conference.
To ensure that members get value for their membership, all presentations and workshop tutorials are available from the members only section of the site. This is in addition to access to the global listserv which reaches thousands of practitioners worldwide, and recognition as an accepted member of the foremost IT crime investigation association.
